Excellent Al Franken ad

Norm Coleman put out an ad two days ago about Al’s past jokes that are pretty extreme and really hit Franken hard about his past.

Franken’s ad that I just saw (what a quick response, much better Franken campaign) was an excellent response and I’m starting to think we’ll win this one more and more, it’ll be close but we’ll win it.

  1. It puts the “Norm Coleman doesn’t want to talk about the issues” out there, and puts “Norm Coleman votes with George Bush” message out there.

The thing I hate most about MN-Sen is the inconsistent polling.  Are we down 15?  Down 10?  Up three?  I mean, come on.  This is absurd.  Based on how low Coleman’s ad really got (In stretching things to try and stab at Franken with a kitchen knife) I am guessing it’s a lot closer than most polls are indicating.

  2. Coleman’s ad was very effective, but this is a great response.  It does everything Franken needed to do in a rebuttal.  He’s serious, separates from his comedian past, and shifts the focus back on Coleman and the issues.

I’m curious to hear what my mother in law thinks of the recent back and forth.  She’s exactly the kind of voter Franken needs to win over, but I could very easily see her being persuaded by Coleman’s diversionary tactics.  I was able to convince her to jump on the Obama bandwagon, but I don’t know if she’ll be along for the Franken hayride.

  3. I saw the ad twice last night so it was probably decent media buy.  Probably had to be to squash that crap now instead of later.
